I am Jamie Stidham-Davis, a teacher at North Laurel High School in London, KY. I grew up in Laurel County and graduated from Laurel County High School and began my college education at Sue Bennett in London. I completed my degree in mathematics with certification to teach at Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky. I continued my education and completed my masters in mathematics education at Union College and then my rank 1 in administration at Eastern Kentucky University. In 1993, I began my teaching career here at North. I am currently working on my 24th year in the classroom. My hope is to be the first person to begin and end their career here at North.
I teach Pre AP PreCal, Pre AP Algebra 2 and Algebra 2. Teaching was not my career choice fresh out of high school but was later encouraged to look at the field by one of my college professors and what an amazing blessing I have received by the choice I made. Teaching gives me the opportunity to impact the lives of people everyday. I look at it as a great responsibility and honor to teach students.
I believe that math is like a language and must be learned and understood to be fluent. My challenge for myself daily is to teach my students to see the big picture of mathematics and to see it as fun and interesting and some days that challenge is hard but we all push through. My hope is that all my students be successful in their future endeavors and that the skills and content they learned in my class be a part of their success.
